Leading Healthcare to Well-Being

Healthcare leadership faces increasing challenges, with rising levels of employee disengagement and declining well-being. At the course, Effective Strategies for Healthcare Leaders: Enhancing Well-Being at Work, course leaders Sigrún Gunnarsdóttir and Lotta Dellve address these vital issues.

Professor Sigrún Gunnarsdóttir from the University of Iceland and Professor Lotta Dellve from the University of Gothenburg are passionate about making workplaces healthier and more sustainable. Both bring extensive experience and research expertise to the course, combining practical leadership insights with a deep understanding of employee well-being.

Gunnarsdóttir’s background in nursing and public health has taken her from leadership roles in healthcare institutions to advisory positions with the World Health Organization and the Icelandic government. Currently, she focuses on leadership development and employee well-being through her work at the University of Iceland and as a consultant for the Administration of Occupational Safety and Health in Iceland. Gunnarsdóttir is also part of the NIVA board.

Dellve, a professor in work science, has dedicated her career to understanding how leadership and organisational practices impact well-being. She works extensively with public sector organisations, developing practical models for sustainable leadership and promoting a holistic view of occupational health.

“It’s crucial to consistently share evidence on successful strategies and leadership approaches to enhance staff engagement and wellbeing”

Both agree that the course is timely and necessary. “Despite growing evidence on health promotion strategies, leaders and teams still struggle to implement them effectively. It’s crucial to consistently share evidence on successful strategies and leadership approaches to enhance staff engagement and wellbeing”, says Gunnarsdóttir. Dellve adds, “The renewed interest in workplace health promotion is promising, but it’s essential to look at risks and resources simultaneously – from both individual and organisational perspectives.”
