Subject background

Exposure to respirable crystalline silica (RCS) is one of the most common occupational exposures world-wide and a wide range of adverse health effects have been identified, including lung diseases like silicosis and lung cancer. In addition, an increased risk of autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis has been identified. Although the legislation regulating exposure to RCS in the occupational setting have become stricter over the last decades, exposure to RCS is still a major cause of work-related deaths. Attention to RCS related topics is highly relevant to keep workers safe in their work environment
