The Maritime Coaching study for Pre-diabetes & Hypertension

About this workshop
This workshop teaches maritime professionals how to diagnose and prevent prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension.
The online workshop will offer a series of lectures, readings, and discussions. Participants are encouraged to share experiences from their organizations. The workshop provides study materials specifically designed for seafarers who have been newly diagnosed with pre-diabetes and are overweight.
Three part workshop
The online workshop consists of three parts: May 20: 10-12:30 CET, May 28: 10-12:30 CET and June 5: 10-12:30 CET. (Central European Time).

Course objectives
The purpose is to inform about the early diagnosis and prevention of pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes and hypertension. Additionally, all participants are invited to participate in a 16-week intervention project aimed at normalizing elevated blood sugar, blood pressure, and weight to promote good health for seafarers, as described on the website: https://www.prediabetes-remission.com/
After completing the 7-hour workshop, participants will be equipped to apply this knowledge in practice, join the intervention studies (not mandatory), and gain an overview of the latest research results in this field.

- Using the Glucometer and Home Testing
- Social Well-Being, Dental Care and Hypertension
Target groups
All fishers, skippers, seafarers, ship owners and their administrative personnel, maritime authorities, ship cooks, maritime medical doctors, and coaches.
Subject background
Seafarers and fishermen have an increased risk for diabetes and hypertension as part of the metabolic syndrome including overweight and obesity. Pre-diabetes increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
General course fee and cancellation information
The workshop is free of charge. Please be aware that there are limited spots available. If you register, we kindly ask that you commit to attending all three sessions. Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate.
