Subject background
Occupational skin diseases, particularly hand dermatitis, are common, affecting individuals in their most active years of life resulting in individual suffering, risk of impairment, and high costs for the individual and the society. High risk occupations with regard to hand dermatitis are numerous, and in many of these occupations’ women are the predominant group affected. The cause of hand dermatitis is usually multifactorial. If the correct diagnosis is established many forms of occupational skin diseases are preventable or symptoms possible to ameliorate so that the inflicted can remain in the workforce.
