The Platform Economy: Building a Decent, Healthy and Safe Future for Workers

Ensuring Safe and Healthy Work in the Platform Economy
This Nordic Baltic seminar addresses the urgent need to fully understand and develop practical implementation measures for the EU Directive on Platform Work, focusing on worker safety, health, and combating precarious work within the rapidly growing platform economy. The seminar aims to analyse the EU Directive’s implications for the Nordic context, share best practices and identify OSH challenges specific to platform work. Experts from different fora and national representatives will lead discussions on enforcement, social dialogue, and future trends, including the impact of AI.
Through presentations and panel discussions the seminar will foster collaboration among policymakers, labour inspectorates, social partners, and researchers. It will generate ideas and practical recommendations for implementing the EU Directive, promoting decent work, and ensuring a sustainable and inclusive platform economy in the Nordic region. This initiative is crucial for improving working conditions, safety and health, reducing precarious work, and strengthening social dialogue within this evolving sector.
The seminar builds on long-standing Nordic-Baltic cooperation, including two EU-funded projects (2018–2021) and a previous full-day seminar on the platform economy, the results of which will be further developed. It also explores enhanced cooperation with regional safety representatives in Norway and Sweden, whose mobile outreach model offers a promising approach for providing guidance and OSH support to platform workers, and may serve as an example of good practice within the Nordic region and beyond.
The final programme, the venue and speaker list will be published at a later stage.
