Conference on the Future of Work

Conference on the Future of Work

4th – 5th of April 2019
Reykjavík, Iceland

In cooperation with the Nordic Council of Ministers and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) the conference, Future of Work, will be held in Reykjavík Iceland, 4th and 5th of April 2019.

In 2017 The Director-General of the ILO appointed a Global Commission on the Future of Work, marking the second stage in the ILO’s Future of Work Imitative. Its job is to undertake an in-depth examination of the future of work to serve as the analytical basis for the delivery of social justice in the 21st century. The report of the Global Commission will be made public on 22 January 2019, and its findings will be one of the subjects on the agenda of the conference in Reykjavik. Stefan Löfven, Prime Minister of Sweden, and one of the two chairmen of the Commission have been invited to present at the conference.

The Nordic Council of Labour Ministers launched an extensive research project last year on the theme, the preliminary findings of which will be presented to the conference in Reykjavik.

The final part of the conference in Reykjavik will specifically address issues linked to gender equality in the world of work issues and close with an Equal Pay International Coalition roundtable session.

It is the intention that the results and key messages will form part of a response to pressing public policy issues and feed into discussions on the ILO’s future role in a changing world of work and into discussion of the changing world of work in other international organisations, such as the OECD, the European Union and UN Women, which have been invited to address the conference. The Director-General of the ILO has accepted an invitation to participate in the Future of Work Conference in Reykjavik on 4 and 5 April 2019, which will take place in the Harpa Concert and Conference Centre in Reykjavik Iceland. The conference will be conducted in English.
