Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya to be guest speaker at the Session of the Nordic Council
22nd of October 2024

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya ran for President of Belarus in 2020. She has been living in exile since Aleksandr Lukashenko was declared the winner following an election independent observers condemned for widespread electoral fraud.
“The people of Belarus have made their choice for democracy, and they deserve the full support of the international community. Parliamentarians in the Nordics and other countries play a critical role in keeping Belarus on the global agenda. Together, we can ensure that Belarus will not remain an outpost of dictatorship, but become a free, independent, and democratic nation in the European family,” she says.
Nordic support important
In her speech, Tsikhanouskaya will highlight the importance of continued Nordic support for democracy in Belarus. She will also reiterate that Belarus is part of the European family of nations and that its future is important to the future security of the whole of Europe.
The speech will be streamed live on norden.org on Wednesday 30 October at 10:00 Icelandic time
