About this course

Occupational health outcomes, such as mental health, work satisfaction, cardiovascular and metabolic disorders are attributed to psychosocial stress at the work place and work life imbalance. In the Nordic countries, compensation claims are increasing rapidly. This development calls for high quality research and evidence based counselling.

Day package I

Course objectives

The purpose of this course is to:

  1. Provide the participants with and up-to-date overview of historical roots and overarching concepts in the field of psychosocial epidemiology.
  2. Review the most common models in the field of psychosocial epidemiology such as job strain, effort-reward imbalance, social injustice, social capital and life events.
  3. Discuss appropriate measures of psychosocial stressors, caveats in epidemiological research and upcoming issues such as gene-environment interaction.

Subject background

The psychosocial work environment and psychosocial stressors are getting ever more attention in the public and among health professionals. At the same time, an increasing number of somatic and psychiatric diseases and conditions are attributed to psychosocial stressors. This development calls for high quality research and evidence based counselling in this area.
